| About Us » Habitat News • House Dedication- July 22nd; 5:30 p.m. 305 N. Texas Campaign Successful
With your help, Midland Habitat raised $300,000 to earn a 1:3 matching grant from the Abell-Hanger Foundation to purchase 305 N. Texas for $425,000, and renovations are underway. The building is 24,000 square feet with loading dock, parking and fenced outdoor storage, for $425,000. Midland Habitat recently received a budget estimate for a 12,000 square foot metal building with loading dock and parking area for 1.2 million. Needless to say, 303 E. Texas is a very good buy for the affiliate. Basically it is double the square footage for less than half the price! A new location was a necessity. Midland Habitat for Humanity has outgrown the current location housing both the administrative offices and the Habitat ReSTORE. Since 1991 Midland Habitat, a Christian based nonprofit organization, has built 81 homes with 4 more under construction. These homes represent safe, decent housing for more than 300 people, most of whom are children. The need for more staff to administer these mortgages and growing opportunities is compounded by possible regional expansion. Midland Habitat had begun discussions with Habitat for Humanity International and Odessa about expanding Midland Habitat’s service area. The need to expand office space already exists and will only grow as Midland Habitat continues to build more homes and expand. The Habitat ReSTORE is a retail store where donated new and used building supplies are sold to the general public. The ReSTORE provides a place where the entire community can recycle usable materials and save valuable space in the landfill while contributing to the Habitat affordable housing ministry. The Habitat ReSTORE has grossed over $742,000 since opening its doors in 2002 with a 43% profit margin. The only thing hindering continued growth is the lack of space. The ReSTORE is a major factor in Midland Habitat’s self sufficiency strategy. The building located at 303 E. Texas will allow the Habitat ReSTORE to triple its square footage and increase sales. ReStore is now open, come by and see what's new! For every $1 spent by Midland Habitat, 84% is spent on program services, 9% on ReSTORE, 4% on administrative cost and 3% on fundraising. We are looking forward to working with you as we continue to build and change lives...one house...one neighborhood...one family at a time!
