Building Homes, Building Hope.
About Us »
History

Through the work of Midland Habitat, low-income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing.  The ultimate goal of Midland Habitat for Humanity is to successfully tackle a significant social problem in our community – decent housing for all. Midland families have seen their lives transformed, becoming stronger members of society and making a difference in their communities when given a "hand up" not a hand out!

Midland Habitat for Humanity (MHFH) was founded in 1991 by a group of committed volunteers, led by Don Hellinghausen,  Father Jon Stasney and Steve Davidson.  Since that time the affiliate has built 101 homes. MHFH currently builds an average of 10 homes a year. House 100 was dedicated in November 2010.

Ever-growing numbers of organizations, churches, businesses and individuals have stepped forward to sponsor a home or become volunteers to assist in the ministry of Habitat.  Please join us as we work together to build homes for God's people in need.

Habitat for Humanity International, started in 1976, has provided simple, decent housing for over 400,000 families in 90 countries, providing more than 2 million people in 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

Homeownership makes a differnce in the lives of children.

A recent study found that low-income children in a home of their own were:

  • 20% more likely to graduate from high school
  • Two times more likely to acquire post secondary education
  • 33% less likely to give birth as unmarried teenagers
  • Math scores increased 9 points
  • Reading scores increased 7 points
